Receiving a parking ticket means paying an unwanted expense but not likely anything financially troubling. Moving violations are another matter. A Florida driver may be shocked at the high fine a traffic citation can bring. And some tickets are far costlier than others. Not surprisingly, the more dangerous and egregious the moving violation, the higher the costs likely become.
Dangerous driving leads to expensive tickets
A broken headlight puts commuters at risk, and not wearing a seat belt leaves a driver more vulnerable to injuries. However, the fines associated with these tickets are generally not severe. Speeding tickets, however, are usually punitive. The fines become more expensive the faster someone speeds and Florida levies harsh fines against those traveling between 20 and 29 miles per hour over the speed limit. Speeding in a construction or school zone could make the costs higher.
The high fines could attempt to dissuade dangerous behavior. Many people speed, and some speed excessively. After receiving a costly ticket, the behavior may change.
Driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated often brings the highest costs. Besides the massive fines for a DUI or DWI, losing driving privileges and going to jail may be the result. Drunk driving puts people’s lives in jeopardy. Unfortunately, persons struggling with substance abuse issues may continue to violate the law even after repeated arrests.
Heavy fines and other violations
Anyone driving without a license takes a significant legal risk. Expect the courts to levy a substantial fine upon a conviction for this offense. If the laws did not provide ample punishment, many would not take driver’s license requirements seriously.
Other traffic violations, including reckless driving, prove costly. Again, dangerous behavior puts lives at risk. Heavy fines may prevent or correct illegal behavior.
Fines aren’t the only costs people face. High insurance premiums may result. Those wrongly accused of a moving violation may fight the ticket to avoid unfair consequences.
